CORPS UPDATE - 2007/08/07 23:09
Hi everybody, well the last four months have been very hard going for all of the Platoon. We have had 8 new draft posted into the Corps which brings our numbers up to about 25 so that is reallly good to see. We have had numerous briefing days and alot of hard range packages but credit goes out to the blokes they all have worked extremely hard and gained alot of experience from these last four months. Our main aim was to concentrate on the SF side especially having new lads thrown into the deep end but once again all have done very well. Our training has seen us up and down the country, sailsbury plain, lydd and hythe, brecon and otterburn. Not only has the lads been concentrating on the SF side, they have been doing section attacks most of them with GPMG's, so there work rate on those attacks were extremely high, all sections came off with good de-brief points, so as we have all been saying for many years not only can we play a various amount of instruments, provide fire support to the battle group but we can also do the rifle platoons job to a very high standard. The lads have also had the added distraction of two new weapon saystems introduced to us the 50 cal heavy machine gun and the grenade machinge gun. All members have fired them both live with the last of the range package which we done in Otterburn, saw us with three Royal Marnes who gave expert advice as they have fired operationally so good ideas came from them. As i said Otterburn was our last range package, we completed company attacks where the companies had the use of everything available to them from engineers to Apache's and Fast Jets so even for me it was quite an experience. The lads are now looking forward to being deployed from mid September to mid October with us being split into three sections, one of those is being attached to 2 Yorks commanded by Pebs, the others are going to be attached to the rifle companies. I shall try and keep you updated through out the tour and send you images, so take care all and stay safe. Cheers Ben and Family.
