Hi there, we have returned from Jamaica safely some of us with good tans and also well trained in jungle warfare. We doployed as an SF Section but as you can imagine their was not much use for SF in those enviroments, so we got turned into a lightrole fire support section.
We completed a 3 day basic jungle school, a day turn around then straight back in for field firing for seven days which was a really good experience for all of the lads. After that we had another day turn round then back in for a further seven days of intermediate jungle warefare training which became very cheeky in some places.
We then returned back to camp for a well deserved five days stand down where most of the lads went off diving and ther rest of us went deep sea fishing, where we saw Col Keenan YAKKING over the back end of the boat, that was an experience and a half. We then returned back to the jungle for a good six day final exercise which saw us on the final attack firing 3 Company in Live whilst they was going in Blank that was a good experience. Like usual we took our Tunics and went down to Jamaica and played at a cocktail party for the High Commissioner and the following night another job for the high Commissioner but alot more people that was for the celebration of the Queen`s birthday. As usual the Corps was excellently turned out and the audience absoluetly enjoyed having us playing for them.
We then returned back to Aldershot after being delayed by the RAF for a couple of days then on the following Monday we found ourselves deploying to glorious Thetford for a defensive exercise, which included in a Battle run and a spot of GAS GAS GAS, this all proved to be a massive learning curve not just the Drummers but for everybody, as someone did`nt indent for the correct amount of defense stores to build proper SF Trenches so the lads did`nt really get anything out of the digging phase.
Now at Aldershot I have now taken over from Andy Lacey as the Drums Sergeant, Steve Vine is doing his resettlement and the new Drum Major is joining us later this year, so as you can see there is quite a change around happening at the moment so things are pretty busy.
Well mate that`s it for now so I`ll keep in touch and you take care mate cheers robbo and family. |
